Okay, so two Monday's ago, after sitting feeling sick and anxious all day, I finally get the call that I have been waiting for. When he finally called, it was a conditional job offer, and wanted me to get started on Tuesday. First I had to go and get fingerprinted, and pay the $65 for the background check. (Would be reimbursed), go and get a UA, open up a checking account at Bank Of America (the bank the company uses for credit cards, etc.) and pack my clothes for a trip to Las Vegas.
So, at the home office, I went and took a 4 day class. It is a class that each and every employee has to go to once a year, and I just happened to be hired the day before it started. I have taken classes like this before, but man, it was everything I could do to stay awake. The first day, the class was about Harassment and it's different forms, and then the rest of the day was managing emotions and others emotions in the workplace. The second day, there were two more classes: Dealing with stress in the workplace and managing multiple deadlines, and the second class was based on the book, "7 habits of highly effective people". The 3rd day was a class on customer service, and that one lasted ALL DAY. The 4th day was my orientation where I learned about all the conferences, hotels we use, caterers, etc.
Here is the other great thing............They have someone that works in their corporate office that is also a stylist. They gave me a $1000 clothing allowance, and Saturday, she took me out shopping. I ended up with 4 summer dresses, 3 pant suits, some nice shirts, a couple of sweaters, a nice overcoat, and 3 pairs of shoes. I was surprised at how much I got for $1000, but they have an agreement with a store that gives them pretty deep discounts on clothing because everyone comes in once year to buy $1000 worth of clothes.
So, I flew back on Monday night after a really really long week. They technically can't send me out until the background check comes back, and it should be back no later than Thursday. So in the meantime, I am just sitting around, getting more anxious to start my new job.
So, I put an ad in the paper (online) for a roommate. I thought maybe there were rules stating male/female roommate, but I guess there isn't. I got 4 calls on Sunday, the day the ad came out, and I have met with 3 of them so far. I got 2 calls today, and will meet with them tonight. You ever met someone and the first second you meet them, you know you don't like them? I met with a gal yesterday who was in her mid-thirties, and just seemed "dirty". She had bad breath, her car looked like she didn't know what a garbage can was, dirt under her fingernails, and right away started to talk me down on the rent. So, yeah, she was a big fat no. The second girl was probably my age, had a 1yr old baby, lived on food stamps, welfare and child support. Sorry, I am not coming back to a house with a baby in it, and someone who may not always be able to pay. The 3rd woman didn't seem so bad, but would probably only need a place to live for 4-5 months until her contract was up where she worked. She is a maybe, but I don't really want to have to take time to do this again 6 months from now. I really only took the time to explain the situation to the last one, and she seemed okay with it. I seriously hate having a roommate, and I don't need help with the rent (It's all paid for), but I want someone to keep an eye on my stuff. So I guess we will see.
Oh, gotta tell you this one. So, while I am in Vegas, I was staying at Bally's.The room was decent, but still smelled like old stale smoke, and the carpets needed to be replaced. Anyways, I come back from class that one day, and the room is about 10 degrees. I tried to turn it down, with no luck. So I call down to the front, they send up some skeezy guy to look at it, he can't fix it, so he calls down to the front on his walkie talkie, and tells me someone will be up to move me rooms. Now, when she tells me that she is moving me rooms, I don't complain or get all pissy, even though it pisses me off that I have to pack up the bathroom, find all my stuff...................So anyways, she gives me a key and says that I can move at my leisure, and that they have upgraded me to a suite for the rest of the time I am there, (It was Thursday night). I thank her, pack up all my shit, and head up to my new room, 4 floors up. I open the door to a room that was twice the size of my old one. It had a big flatscreen tv, king size bed, and a jetted tub that I could swim in. It was fuckin awesome! I hadn't even gotten unpacked before I had hot water running in the tub. Funny thing is, when the jets were on, there was one that seemed to hit just the right spot, if you know what I mean! LOL. I gotta go, my next potential roommate will be here at 2, and I haven't even showered for the day yet.
